I contemplate at length the beginning and end of human existence, and the emotions that lie in between. Drawing inspiration from ancient murals, I overlay their primal sensibility with the origins and extinction of life, as well as the full spectrum of human joy, anger, sorrow, and delight. At times I brush lightly past these themes; at other times I delve deeply into them, expressing them in my own way, free from rigid formal constraints.

I work with a wide range of materials—including graphite, crayon, oil, acrylic, gouache, and metal corrosion—but it is especially the corrosion of metal that resonates with me in how it makes the traces of time visually palpable. Surfaces imbued with creation and disappearance, with emotion and memory, become another face that holds the journey of human life.

I continue to value the physical acts of drawing, scratching, and building up layers by hand. This is not an attempt to return to the past, but a belief in the most fundamental impulse for expression that resides within us. Ultimately, what I seek to depict is the point where creation and extinction meet, where emotion and time intersect—a way of capturing the sublime journey of human existence as it moves between the primal and the contemporary.

There are those who travel through the desert. The rough sleep they encounter in winds under a sky where the stars seem ready to pour down is a magical experience. Along the river where the Milky Way flows across the round, darkened vault of the new-moon night, a river of peace runs for all who continue along the journey of life.

나는 인간 존재의 시작과 끝, 그 사이의 감정들을 오래 들여다본다. 고대 벽화에서 영감을 받아, 그 원시적인 감각을 삶의 기원과 소멸, 그리고 인간의 희로애락과 겹쳐 바라본다. 이 모든 것들을 때론 가볍게 스치고, 때론 깊이 파고들며, 형식에 얽매이지 않고 나만의 방식으로 표현해 나간다.

흑연, 크레용, 유화, 아크릴, 과슈, 금속 부식 등 다양한 재료를 사용하지만, 특히 금속의 부식은 시간의 흔적을 시각적으로 드러내는 데 강한 울림이 있다. 생성과 소멸, 감정과 기억이 스며든 그 표면은 인간의 여정을 담고 있는 또 하나의 얼굴이다.

나는 여전히 손으로 긋고, 긁고, 쌓아 올리는 행위를 중요하게 생각한다. 그것은 과거로 돌아가려는 것이 아니라, 인간 안에 있는 가장 본질적인 표현의 충동을 믿기 때문이다. 결국 내가 그리고자 하는 건, 창조와 소멸이 만나고 감정과 시간이 교차하는 지점이다. 원시와 현대를 넘나들며, 인간 존재가 지나온 그 숭고한 여정을 담아내는 일이다.

사막을 여행하는 이들이 있다. 별들이 쏟아질 것 같은 바람 속에서 맞이하는 거친 잠은 마법 같은 경험이다. 그믐밤 둥근 천공에 은하수가 흐르는 강가에는, 삶의 여정을 계속하는 모든 이에게 평화의 강이 흐른다.
